The instructions provided here is for general guidance!

How long should your bandage stay on?

Second Skin (clear, stick on):
These bandages can be left on for up to seven days, so long as it feels confortable the exceptions are not occuring.

The exceptions:
 a) It has filled with fluid (plasma, ink), creating a "bubble"
 b) Your skin has any reaction to the adhesive on the bandage. This can look like simple reddness or in more rare cases: hives, blisters.
 c) The bandage has pealed off the skin, exposing the tattoo underneath to any foreign bodies that may come in contact.
✶ If any of the above occur, remove as soon as your are able to safely do so.

Plastic Wrap / Soaker Pad :
These bandages are typically used for largee scale or heavily saturated tattoos.
These can be left on for a short period of time. Typically removed between 2 - 8 hrs.

The exceptions:
 a) Your skin has any adverse reaction to the adhesive on tapes that may be used to hold the bandage. This can look like simple reddness or in more rare cases: hives, blisters.
 c) The bandage has pealed off the skin, exposing the tattoo underneath to any foreign bodies that may come in contact.
✶ If any of the above occur, remove as soon as your are able to safely do so.

How to clean your tattoo
& keep it healthy.

What you'll need:
- a non-scented, dye-free, clean soap.
- a non-scented moisturizer / ointment.
- clean towel / paper towel.
- clean change of clothing.
- CLEAN HANDS

Washing

1) Upon removing your bandage, you need to wash it to remove any excess plasma, ink or ointment on your fresh tattoo.
Its advised to remove the bandage in your bathroom / shower.
2) Using the palm of your hand, lather the soap on the tattoo, rinse with luke-warm water.
Repeat until its clean. You'll know youve washed your tattoo enough when it no longer feels slimy, and you cannot see any debris left on / around the tattoo.
3) Dry the tattoo off by patting it dry with a clean towel or paper-towel

Moisturizing

1) Apply a thin layer of moisturizer to your fresh tattoo. (Do not apply any sunscreen)
- Moisturizers / ointments keep any excess fluids from leaking too heavily, as well as creating a barrier to keep out any foreign bodies that can cause infection.
2) Continue to apply moisturizer atleast twice a day, especially after showering.

Other stuff to think about:

- Keep your tattoo is wet as your eyeball.
- Itchiness can be a sign the tattoo is too dry.
- If your lotion is a watery consistency, you may need to apply more than twice a day.
- If your lotion is a more oily/thick consistency, apply only a very thin layer.

✶✶✶

Daily maintenence, until fully healed:
- Minimum 2 weeks -

On the surface, your tattoo is "healed" when its no longer flaking or dry.
Internally, tattoos can take months to heal.

WHAT TO DO:

- If you suspect your tattoo is infected, contact a doctor ASAP. After contacting your doctor, send a clear, well-lit photo to your artist.

- Ensure any clothing coming in contact with the tattoo is clean, loose, breathable and made of plant or synthetic materials. (This also applies to your bedding!)

- Keep strenuous activities to a minimum. Especially if those activities require mobility from the body parts that have been tattooed.
Rest up!

- Keep your tattoo clean!
If any plasma, sweat, or dirt/debris accumulates around or on your fresh tattoo: wash it gently with a mild soap, and pat dry. Similarly to your initial wash.

- Stay hydrated & eat your veggies!
Ensuring your body has enough nutrient resources will of course aid in your healing time.

✶✶✶

To ensure the longevity of the appearance of your tattoo, continue to take care of your skin!

Regular moisturizing and UV protection will prolong the life of colours and details in your tattoo!
After a few months, when the tattoo has healed more internally, you may introduce exfoliation back into your routine.

✶✶✶

⃠⃠  WHAT NOT TO DO:

- Keep your tattoo out of direct and continuous submersion in water.
- Avoid baths, pools, saunas, hottubs, and natural bodies of water.

- Do not scratch your tattoo!
Tattoos typically begin to get itchy a day or two after your appointment. This is a natural part of the process. It can also indicate dryness! If moisturizing doesnt settle the itch, apply a product like Bactine, which is made for scratches and bug bites.

- Do not exfoliate for atleast 3 months. The top skin on your tattoo is extremely thin and sensitive. Much like scratching, this can cause further irritation and prolong healing

- Keep out of direct sunlight.
You cannot apply sunscreen to your fresh tattoo, so keep your tattoo covered with breathable clothing when outside.

- Keep animals away from your fresh tattoo! Your sweet furry babies are covered in a lot of stuff that would love to make your tattoo its new habitat. (This includes fibers made of animal furs / skins)

- Drinking (alcohol) heavily after your appointment.
Your blood and immune-system is a crucial component to healing any wound. Alcohol will impair your circulation and cellular regeneration.
